Online Poker

I have registered to play in the PokerStars World Blogger Championship of Online Poker!

This Online Poker Tournament is a No Limit Texas Holdem event exclusive to Bloggers.

Registration code: 7330476

Played in the mook last night with dissapointing results. I think the cash game is ruining my tourney game….stupid huh. I’m killing party’s .50/1 having only 1 minor losing session. beyong that I’m 10x up in less than a week at Party. This must be some sort of aberration. Either I can’t possibly be that good, or they can’t possibly be that bad….right?? I guess we will see in the coming weeks.

WWDN:
I was cruising along nicely until I ran my Aces into the luckboxes’ AKc. He called for the club and got it on the turn. bastard. He had already taken Wil out with KK vs JJ.

In other news I got 3rd in a 1-table 22 on party, dropped a buy in at 25NL, then dropped a half of a buy in at 100NL. Went to PS and nearly quadrupled at 50NL 6 handed. 2 key hands: I had AQs vs JJ xQJ on the flop, one spade…I was the agressor and he was calling. The flush came on the river and he pushed into me. cha ching. Flopped straight with JTc vs KQ-. He was betting, I was gleefully calling. Then i get a phone call and have to make the trudge to work at 1AM, bummer.

I’m feling good about the cash game while my tourneys have gone in the tank. weird.

they pull me back in. /Michael Corleone.

I had a nice couple of days off, then I decided to log on to Party to see if I had any cash left there. I stopped playing party at least a year ago in a fit of rage and disgust and I figured I actually might have left some money there. I needed some kind of change, as I was getting killed at PS. Cutting my bankroll in a third over 1 1/2 months. Anywho, it turns out I had a whopping 1.26 in my Party account. However I did have an offer for 30 bucks. I just needed to clear 300 raked hands I think. So, why not I say and fire up .10/.25 and quickly lose 10. All right, new table another buy in….. Okey dokey I fire up a $6 to try and claim my last bit of dignity, during which I play blackjack with the remaining $4 to try and get another tourney buy in, which I do. I proceed to money in 3 consecutive $6 tourneys, and decide its time to start drinking. I win a $11 and place in a $22 (V is a bad influence). Now I have a roll to start up .10/25 again. This is when things get a little blurry. I admit, I’ve given up on taking notes at this point. With my regained confidence, I fire up PS and join Surflexus and Waffles at 50NL. First hand I’m dealt A5 and limp into a flopped wheel. I double through some fine player who decides to bet into me with A9. I manage to donk off most of those chips for the next hour or so, Surf busts and Waffles is crusing. I fire up the $3 rebuy along with Waffles and lose 4 buy ins on reeeely stupid drunk plays. In the meantime though I have somehow tripled up on the 50NL table(really, i have no idea)..I had to leave cause no one was joining the table. I mean, if you come to a table and one guy is sitting there with ~175 on a 50 NL table, do you get intimidated?? So players were avoiding me and I needed to pass out.

So, the moral of the story is that weird shit happens, and sometimes for a reason. I turned $30 into just under 300 and 50 into just over 200 in 2 sessions. Poker sure is some crazy shit sometimes. Thanks to waffles and POISON for entertining my drunken ass.

I sucked hard in the WPBT event(s) I was playing a bit too loose and needed to fold a couple steal attempts at a relatively aggressive starting table. Having CJ to your left is no fun. I was out in the early 30′s on both tourneys. A healthy pat on the back goes to Hoyazo, Smizmiatch, and DoubleA’s for making both final tables..

Yay WWDN tonight!! I think I shall choose to win this one.

I figured I’d play along:

1. What is the biggest mistake people make at a NL table?

Calling too much. Improper betting in regards to the size of the pot.

2. What is the biggest mistake people make at a Limit table?

Being there… Just kidding. Opening up card requirements, and not making adjustments.

3. Why do you play poker?

Because I’m an altruistic moron.

But really, it’s all about action, watching the money move. I’m compulsive and weak. It’s no wonder poker players love seeing me at their table.

4. If you weren’t playing poker, what would you be doing?

Wasting time and not losing money doing it.

5. What is your favorite poker book and why?

Harrington on Holdem 1 and 2. I just wish I could force myself to play like that.

6. Who is your favorite poker player and why?

Phil Ivey – fearless. Honerable mention Mike Matisow. When he is on, it is impossible to put him on cards. Also he has may ways of throwing you off. Master of the tilt move.

7. Which poker player do you dislike the most and why?

That big fat bowler dude from last years WSOP. Man I wanted to punch him in the overies.

8. Do your coworkers know about your blog?

Negative.

9. What is the most you have won in a cash game or MTT (both live and online)?

Online: Took second in a 180 player. Whatever amount that is.
Live tourney: 1200.

Online cash game: One night I won ~$650 at .50/1
Live cash: ~300 in the hood.

10. What is the most you have lost in a cash game or in one day total (both live and online)?

I’ve gone through ~350 in one day before.

My accounting sucks, so these numbers are really guesses.

11. Who was your first poker blog read?

Does Paul Phillips count? His blog led me to the poker bloggers.

12. What satisfies you more, your aces holding up for a big pot or a bluff working for a big pot?

Playing a hand properly and having it work out is more satisfying. I feel a little dirty after pulling off a bluff.

13. Why do you blog?

Pseudo-Masochism.

14. Do you read blogs from an RSS reader like bloglines or do you visit each blog?

I just found bloglines, so I’m trying it out. I like visiting the sites though.

15. Would you rather play poker for a living than do what you currently do for a living?

Yes, but I would go broke much faster.

16. Do you wear a tin foil hat on occasion?

No.

17. If you had to pin it down to one specific trait, what does a great poker player have (or do) that separates them from an average player?

Great players seem to have an instinct. I’m guessing after 5 jillion hands, you start to develop a feel for things. And balls, big brass cojones.

18. Is Drizz the coolest person on the planet for naming his baby Vegas?

19. What is your primary poker goal and are you close to accomplishing it?

To win a tournament over 500 people. Not yet, I got 14th in a 700.

20. What is your primary online site and why?

Pokerstars, I really like the software, 9 person tables instead of 10. I have recently re-discovered the beauty of Party though.

21. What site do you dislike and why?

I have played so many horrible sites…Poker Mountain- are they still around? I also really do not like playing on Bodog, despite the soft tables.

Last night sucked. I wasn’t feeling it. Frustrated, anxious, impatient and stoopid is how I’d describe my play last night. Congrats to either GROB or heffmike for the win. I needed to sleep, but it looked like a good matchup.

Taking a step back is the right move for me. I’ve got alot on my plate now that I actually took the time to look.

hmm

I don’t want that to be the top post.
I’m such a negative nancy sometimes. Boo Hoo….STFU

Here’s a question, How lame is it for 30 something geeks to post poetry?

Approaching lameness factor 12…..

mission assailant
holding off players
the truth sooth sayer
isn’t it enough

a fly in hypocrisy
a sly new philosophy
the guns are going off on me
an answer to the bluff

the walls are closing in on you
the silence in the lies are true
the bruise it turns a deeper blue
you wait too long and the chance is through

all of our time is all in vain
and you’re shrieking in the pouring rain
your idle time leaves you no gain
a shift in time has turned too soon

so along its gone and down the road
and in the air it begins to show
your feeling the fire burning too low
barreling at you a runaway train

the chance is here, it’s yours to keep
don’t think too hard it’s not that deep
the most expensive lies start out so cheap
start over again and learn to grow

Played live poker on Friday in the hood. Had a pretty good night playing OH/8. Its so loose its not even funny, nearly every hand gets paid off. I’m the nut low master and was up ~$100. Until the end of the night and the bank is off by ~120. I’m seriously pissed, because its my responsibility, and I left some cash with the chips since there was a point which I was still in the tourney, and I let some guys buy their own chips for OH/8. I don’t think anyone intentionally stole money. I mean none of these guys are worried about 100-200 bucks, it’s just not that type of group. However, whenever more than one person handles the cash, stupid crap will happen, there’s plenty of drinking going on. Ultimately, I was a lazy ass for not keeping all the cash under control, thus, I lose. YAY. When it leaks, it floods. I’m on a downswing now, and need to get out. erg.

NON POKER CONTENT TO FOLLOW.

The rest of my weekend was certainly the best of my weekend. Saturday was a rough start, the wife was perturbed (fuming) at my late (early) arrival and my desire to sleep as late as possible. Her sister was coming over to sit with the kids and give us a nite out. So date night wasn’t starting out so great. Also I still had no plan whatsoever for what we might do. I am the king of last minute ‘surprises’ and creative planning, so I wasn’t really worried.

The wife has been begging for years to take some dance lessons. I don’t have a huge issue with this, but timing is a factor. We’re very busy. Anyway, I found a place that does introductory salsa lessons. Now I really do like to dance, I’m not your typical ‘too cool for it’ guy. I actually take some pleasure of making an ass of myself on occasion. However, I just don’t get salsa. The wife has been trying to get me to salsa forever. I an simply too white, my body doesn’t understand how to move like that. Gimmie a foxtrot, a waltz or a box step, and I can fake it with the best, there’s something about salsa I just don’t get, and it looks like so much fun. (when done correctly) Well we danced for an hour or so and I was able to get some moves down. I was self conscious and frustrated though, which is not standard for me.

After South America, we moved on to Asia. We went to a Sushi/Yakitori/Noodle restaurant. It was a beautiful night, a little crisp in the air, but nice enough to sit outside, which I really wanted to do being overheated from dancing and dehydration. The wife had warmed up a little from earlier, and this is one of her favorite places to eat, so I’m batting 1.000 so far.

After a nice leisurely dinner we took a walk down to the Irish pub. 3 continents! I rock! My wife and her immediate family are all Irish and parts of my family are scotch/english/irish. She spent a summer there and wants to live there at some point. So needless to say, we had a good time at the pub. There’s a twinge of cheese, yes, but this is actually where alot of the local Irish folks hang out. So the cheese factor moves down a bit. Also the Guinness is awesome there. Its one of the few places that doesn’t serve it too cold, which is KEY off the tap.

Now things are going swimmingly, we have a nice little buzz and decide to check out one more place. The wife has a friend who’s husband is a professional guitarist. He plays in a popular bar on the weekend to make a little extra cash and hang out with his buddies. We go to see if he is playing, and he is! Here’s your typical American bar. So we stroll inside (its packed) and stake out a spot in font of the stage.

I feel so old.

Mostly 20-somethings standing around getting sloshed, looking to hook up with whoever will pay attention. This was never my kind of scene. I’m really not interested in crowds. But a few beers and ‘knowing the band’ helps. We had a good time, joining in the debauchery and before I knew it, it was 2:30. Time to get gone. A fantastic night.

These are the times I cherish most. Hanging out, talking doing SOMETHING, having an activity, especially with my wife, she’s all kinds of fun. I don’t do this enough. I am a selfish bastard with my time. I think I have earned or deserve ‘me’ time. This is somewhat true, but I don’t regulate me time. I do a whole lot of regulating not me time.

Thus is the crux of my addiction to poker. My hour or 2 a week turned in to every night for hours. I knew it was wrong, and I didn’t care.

So, some of you might not see me around as much. I will continue to play on WWDN Tuesdays’ for awhile. and may just limit myself to that for a bit. I definitely will not play more than 2 nights a week. I simply have other shit that I could/should be doing instead.

It sounds like its addictive behavior, and it is. I’ve said this before, and if I can’t put myself in check now, I’ve got some serious issues. I wanted to get this in print somewhere. As much as I love it, poker can not be my life’s goal.

Reality Check

I will never be a professional poker player.
I will not make millions of dollars playing poker.
I am a tourist, a donk, a wannabe.
I am an addict.

A reminder to myself.

Live poker tonight..and I’m in a horrible mood.

Makings of a losing session you say? Screw that, I’m leaving to smoke cigars and drink in about 10 minutes…the effects should counteract. :-)

I was bubble boy last night oh joy. Nothing better than playing limit OH/8 for 2 hours and finishing 1 place out of the money.

Facing no bets 3 spots in front of the dealer, am I really supposed to fold on the bubble with AsAdKs2d ???

Got 8th in 45person…final hand AQ vs QQ. ugh.

Made my money back relatively quick 6 handed.100NL

YAY for WWDN tonight….

Decent HU article
from Pokernews.

I guess it would be better if I had actually heard of these people.
